In Afghanistan, girls face some of the harshest restrictions in the world. According to the United Nations, the country has become one of the most hostile places for women and girls. Since taking power, the Taliban have issued more than 70 decrees restricting the rights of girls — including their right to education.
Despite these barriers, 18-year-old Suraya Mohammadi has shown extraordinary courage and determination.
She is the founder of Safiran-e-Solh (Youth Peace Ambassadors Group) and has already been recognised internationally for her leadership and commitment to peace.
Suraya is a recipient of both the Wilson Hinkesell Peace Award and is a recent recipient of the PACEY Award from the Basel Peace Office.
Even without access to formal schooling, Suraya has achieved something remarkable: she has been accepted to a prestigious university in Canada.
This fundraiser aims to help Suraya travel to Canada and begin her studies — giving her the opportunity to pursue the education she has fought so hard for and continue her work as a voice for peace and young women.
Your support can help turn Suraya’s determination into a life-changing opportunity!
To ensure Suraya's safety and privacy, we have decided not to share a photograph of her on this site! It is essential that we work toward privacy and protect her from potential harm!
