Description: This fundraiser is for Sheldon Penner and his brother-in-law, Seth Winzer, who are facing a major kidney transplant journey together. In August 1997, Sheldon received a kidney transplant from his sister, Carla, and that incredible gift lasted more than 27 years. Those years were a true blessing and gave him time for family, work, service, and so many meaningful memories. That kidney stopped working, so he has been on dialysis four days a week for over three years. Last November, doctors had to remove that transplanted kidney because it was no longer functioning, was causing recurring infections, and was restricting blood flow between his liver and the transplanted kidney. A shunt was placed in the major vein in his liver which caused the pressure in his liver to drop into a healthy range, changing the transplant team’s recommendation from needing both a liver and kidney transplant to needing only a kidney transplant.
Now, there is new hope. Seth is a match, and the kidney transplant surgery is scheduled for November 17. This fundraiser will help support both Sheldon and Seth through the transplant surgery and the medical and recovery needs that come with it. Seth and his family will be traveling to Portland, OR for this surgery. As they prepare for this major surgery, support, prayers, and help are deeply appreciated. Every act of kindness means so much as they face the days ahead and begin the recovery journey together.
