I would like to introduce you to my dear friend Christina Piper who was diagnosed with Stage 2 Mammary Breast Cancer. She didn't know it at the time but she would eventually go through over 20 rounds of Chemotherapy. Even with losing her hair twice, she has kept a very positive outlook. She has had multiple hospital stays at this point, including several days for a Mastectomy. She finished her last surgery by getting a skin graft.
This path has had several bumps and curves along it that many of us couldn't predict. Christina's optimism has given me a run for my money and sometimes I couldn't out positive her! She has been realistic about her journey and knew that this wasn't going to be what took her out. It has not been easy by any means, but she knows that she is going to bounce back.
This journey has also brought hardships. At the beginning of her Chemo rounds, Christina's complications meant that she had to leave her much loved job. She was able to get on short term disability for 52 weeks. That ran out in March and she was keeping afloat on limited savings but is now trying to avoid credit card debt to pay medical bills and every day life.
The next steps to get Christina back to one hundred percent is healing surgery sites and starting a six weeks of daily radiation treatments. She is hoping to get back to work by the end of the year.
When she told me she had cancer, I told her it was time to rally. We've had several rallies to bring people together and support Christina the way we can. So i am here to rally the BIG rally and ask for support to help Christina bounce back without massive medical debt.
