Asalaamualykum, hello and hi.

My name is Sham and I’ve recently started litter picking around Blackburn as I believe it is our duty to ensure that where we live is clean and looked after. A small effort can make a big difference, even if it’s picking up one piece of rubbish which you see on the floor. Sadly, parts of Blackburn have a bad reputation for being littered with rubbish, so we should all do our part to clean our streets up.

The litter picker that I have been provided with by the voluntary organisation is useful, but it is lightweight/flimsy and isn’t really designed for the amount of work I’m hoping to do. I would like to raise funds to purchase a good quality litter picker, along with a handcart litter picker and other basic equipment that will allow me to collect more rubbish and cover more areas efficiently to get our streets looking in tip-top condition!

I’m not expecting to clean up Blackburn overnight but any effort can make a difference. My belief is simple: one bag at a time, one street at a time, we can slowly make a difference.

I also believe that if we want the younger generation to take pride in where they live, we need to lead by example. If children and young people see people making an effort to look after their town, hopefully they’ll be inspired to do the same and look after our planet.

Every donation, no matter how small, will go towards equipment that will help me continue litter picking to make the clean up more effective and efficient. I’m currently litter picking on my own which I am more than happy to do as it helps me get my steps in! If anyone does wish to volunteer, be sure to ask and I can help you.

Thank you to anyone who chooses to support the fundraiser. If you cannot donate, even sharing this or simply picking up a piece of litter when you see any is amazing ❤️

Let’s make Blackburn cleaner, one bag at a time. One bag might not change Blackburn - one bag at a time, we can! “Cleanliness is half your faith,” (Sahih Muslim 223)
