One accident and life comes crashing down

Sam and Felicite Munyandamutsa left Rwanda as young adults due to political upheaval and fear of a coming war. After arriving in the United States, they married, finished college, and began building a life together in Aloha, Oregon, where they still live today. Sam works in information technology for the Northwest Regional Educational Service District. Felicite has spent the past 17 years as a medical assistant caring for children with heart disease at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Together, the couple has been heavily involved in their community, the African community in Oregon, and they have also hosted many Rwandan students attending local high schools.
On February 20, 2020 Sam was driving to pick up Felicite. He made a left turn through an intersection. When he looked he never saw the car coming towards him from the other direction. Instantaneously, the car hit Sam and injured the woman who was driving causing serious damage to her spine. Their insurance company settled, but the limited liability of their policy has left a $110,000 dollar claim against them. Sam and Felicite feel great compassion for the terrible injury the women suffered. Yet, we are concerned that this debt will leave them in a hole that they may never be able to climb out of.
Sam’s and Felicite’s quiet natures made them want to shoulder their financial burden privately; but as the story began to unfold, friends rallied to their side and organized this campaign. We are a few of the many patients, colleagues, and parishioners who love Sam and Felicite. We are their team and we hope that you will help us begin to overcome some or all of this staggering debt. Thank you so much for considering.
