She lives on a houseboat on the Thames at Chiswick. Weeks of extreme heat caused the Woden hull planks to contract opening cracks that allowed water into the boat faster than the bilge pumps could pump it out, so the pump's failed and by the time anyone got to her, the boat was going down with almost everything she owns inside it.

You lived through that heat. Everyone did. Weeks of it, the kind where you stop sleeping properly and the pavement is still warm at midnight. For most of us it was something to complain about. For Enfys the heat wave was so strong that the heat contracted the timbers of the boat she lives on, and when the pump gave out there was nothing left between her and the river.

When a flat floods, there’s a landlord, a buildings policy, someone whose job it is to put it right. When a boat goes down, there is none of that. The boat is the home and the home is the asset, and the person standing on the pontoon watching it go is the only one responsible for getting it back.

Enfys woke up with a home and by the evening she had a salvage problem, a survey bill and a bin bag of what was still dry.

If you know Enfys, you know what she has spent the last three years doing: pouring everything she has into getting her film made. After years of blood, sweat, tears and enormous amount of work, she is almost there. But an independent producer with a film in development is the one who pays for everything and gets paid last, if at all. Enfys has spent 3 years funding other people’s time, travel and materials out of her own pocket, and none of it comes back until the film is financed. And when it is financed, that money belongs to the film. Not a penny of it could ever go near fixing her boat. You also know she has navigated challenge after challenge of what is an incredibly tough industry and walked back into the room smiling, because that is who she is.

She has not asked for this. She would never ask for this. So her friends are asking for her.

What the £15,000 covers:

• £3,500 marine survey, required before she can insure or move back aboard.

• £8,000 hull and structural repair

• £2,500 stripping and drying the wooden interior, replacing wooden flooring, built in seating and bed

• £250 higher-rated bilge pumps, a redundant third pump, and automatic high-water alarms, so this cannot happen again

• £1,000 replacing the essentials lost to the water, and contingency for what the survey turns up

She has somewhere to stay, so none of this is accommodation. It is all boat and it is all necessary.

Where the money goes:

Funds go straight into the boat works - Invoices get posted here as updates. Anything raised above the total that she does not need goes to Macmillan Cancer Support, which was her choice, not ours.

£50 from 100 people gets the survey done and the boat into dry dock ready to start works.

Her friends can carry the bin bags, dry out what’s left and put a roof over her. We have done that.

What we cannot do is find £15,000 between us. That part only happens if people who have never met her decide to help anyway.
