Hi! Our beloved Suki Husain is a valued employee at CA, and also a native of the island nation of Sri Lanka. As you've probably seen in the news, Sri Lanka is in the midst of a terrible economic crisis. (The NYT coverage of the situation is thorough if you need to catch up on the situation.) There is a widespread fuel, gas and food shortage. Multiple people have died while waiting for days in fuel lines, and others have died because the ambulance didn't have enough gas to transport them to the hospital. Crime is on the rise, and people are so desperate for goods to sell that they're breaking into houses; someone broke into Suki's cousin's home and even stole her flip flops.
Suki is in Sri Lanka right now, and because of her connections in the country, she and her sister are able to put funds to work quickly and make sure they help those most in need. With funds her friends have sent to date, they have been able to donate to over 30 families, support three organizations working to provide food packs to multiple communities and support to university students, and provide enough funds to feed 200 school children for one week. Just last week, thanks to a donation from a friend in the US, they were able to pay an overdue power bill that returned electricity after many months to the windowless home of a family with two small children (the overdue bill was $80). They are now considering procuring a more secure door for a family in a dangerous neighborhood who lives in a home with a makeshift door that won't close.
Please consider donating to this cause, and please share the fundraiser.
