On the Brink of Losing Everything
Please Help Us Keep the Lights On
I never imagined I'd find myself here, on my knees, pleading for help. This is beyond humbling, but I have no choice. Our electricity, water, and cell phones are set to be shut off next week. We're doing everything we can to hold on, but my SSDI income just isn't enough to cover our bills, and we're out of options. We're facing a total of $1,055.03 in overdue bills: $173.43 for water, $715.54 for electricity, and $166.06 for our cell phones.
We've already cut out every non-essential expense—we don't have cable, never eat out, and only buy the absolute basics for our household. The biggest blow came when our AC unit died during the hottest week of summer. Replacing it wiped out our last bit of savings, and we had to ask family for help. They've done all they can for us, and now we have nowhere else to turn.
We need electricity to keep my medication refrigerated, water to manage my medical needs, and cell phones to stay connected with doctors, therapists, and emergency services. These aren’t luxuries for us—they’re lifelines. If you're uncomfortable sending money, we completely understand. We're more than happy to provide the account information for our utility companies if you'd prefer to make direct payments.
A Little About Us: My husband and I are both in our 50s and have been married for over 25 years. We’ve always faced challenges together, but this is the hardest one yet. I’m 90% bedridden due to a rare, undiagnosed condition that has paralyzed my internal organs. Over the years, I’ve had 9 organs removed, with implants and devices helping the ones that remain. I also suffer from multiple other health issues, including osteoporosis and panic disorder.
My husband is battling diabetic neuropathy and severe spinal problems, including spondylosis and stenosis. He’s been waiting over 3 years for his disability claim to get through the appeals process. Meanwhile, my SSDI is the only income we have, and it falls about $500 short of covering just our basic bills.
We’ve exhausted every possible resource—food pantries and charities are overwhelmed, and the few programs that are left have no funds. The harsh reality is, we're at risk of losing everything. I’m not asking for much, even $5 can make a world of difference to us right now. If you can't help financially, please consider sharing our story. It could mean everything to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and a heartfelt hug to anyone who can offer even a glimmer of hope. Your kindness means more than words can express.
