On -- six short plays by Samuel Beckett

Hi! My name is Asia Meana. I am producing and directing a show entitled On -. It is composed of six short plays by Samuel Beckett, and will use choreography as connective tissue to unite them.

I selected six works that are all undergirded by the same theme: forward momentum in the face of pressure to stop. I believe this theme will resonate loudly with - and hopefully provide solace to - our audience; after all, we are still trying to find our way out of a catastrophic global pandemic.

In addition to its thematic relevance, this project is important to me because nothing has ever affected me like Samuel Beckett's work. Though I intend to stage these pieces with fierce integrity to his notoriously (and gloriously) specific directives, I do want to highlight what I see as Beckett's radical optimism by drawing out the aforementioned theme. I have always located this pulse, this affirmation of life, at the heart of his work. I rarely see the admittedly quite bleak Beckettian wilderness navigated with hope, and I would like to do that with this project.
