On my way to UCLA

Donation protected
Hello everyone :)

Thank you for taking your time to read my story and hopefully help me on my journey to college.

My name is Cinthia and I recently graduated high school as the valedictorian of my class. I was blessed to be accepted to multiple colleges and being able to attend the University of California — Los Angeles (UCLA) as a first generation student.

I came to the United States after obtaining my legal residence at almost 10 years old. I had to go through the struggle of learning the English language at such age as well as the American culture. I continued to work hard throughout my school years to get in the same level as everyone else. Throughout high school I was a straight As IB Diploma student and was involved in multiple clubs such as National Honor Society, Key Club, as well as being treasurer and secretary for the Make A Wish Club and Interact club. On top of that, I always gave back to my community on local events and on elementary after school programs as well as Saturday’s schools.

I was thrilled when I found out that I was accepted into UCLA since it was my top choice. Everything changed though after I obtained my financial aid package. I got a little worried because the overall cost of attending would be way over my family’s budget and therefore I wouldn’t be able to afford paying for such amount.  Though I was able to obtain a scholarship and an opportunity to do work study at school, the amount still wouldn’t be enough to cover the overall costs.

Most people would turn to their parents for help, but this was no longer an option for me. My dad had been working in the same place for the past 35 years, but due to financial causes, the place recently closed down. At the moment he can’t seem to find a job due to his low education level and the fact that he is not fluent in English. Our family currently survives on the little money that he earns doing small works here and there with his friends. The lost of his job obviously put me in a tougher position.

Getting accepted into UCLA has been a dream alone and I’ll do anything it takes to make it possible. This is why I felt the need to reach out to you guys for help.  Though I will be needing money for the next years, I’m planning on working hard to find the scholarships needed to make up for them. I would much appreciate for any donations you guys could make to allow me to continue my education at one of the top universities this upcoming fall.  Even just a little contribution would make such a great difference.

Thank you all !!!!

Muchas Gracias!!!
