On his 11th birthday, he lost his father to deportation

In November 2025, the father was on his way to work when he was stopped by the police and handed over to ICE. He remained detained for approximately one week.

The father suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, and while he was detained, he was denied access to the vital medication he had been receiving once a month for several months. His health began to deteriorate rapidly due to the stress of confinement.

ICE officers gave him a false ultimatum: he could remain in the detention center or sign a voluntary departure form and be released the following day. But ultimately, the decision was never truly in his hands. ICE agents told him that whether he signed or not, they were going to send him back to his home country. He was deported to Guatemala in November 2026, on the 11th birthday of his only son.

Since that day, the mother and son have been living under enormous emotional and financial pressure. The father now resides in Guatemala without the necessary resources to treat his Multiple Sclerosis. He was the sole source of income, and the mother and son are struggling to pay rent. The mother was also the victim of a scam by an attorney who refuses to return the deposit she paid for a legal consultation that never took place.

Both the mother and the son are experiencing severe anxiety and depression. The child, who has learning difficulties and has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), has been subjected to bullying at school, where classmates cruelly mock the deportation of his father. His mother has been seeking mental health assistance for both herself and her son, but the available options are extremely limited.

Today, we ask our community to surround this family with compassion and support. Any donation, no matter how small, can help this mother and her son cover their basic needs while they go through one of the most difficult times of their lives. Su madre ha estado buscando asistencia de salud mental tanto para ella como para su hijo, pero las opciones son extremadamente limitadas. Hoy pedimos a nuestra comunidad que rodee a esta familia con compasión y apoyo. Cualquier donación, por pequeña que sea, puede ayudar a esta madre y a su hijo a cubrir sus necesidades básicas mientras atraviesan uno de los momentos más difíciles de sus vidas.
