Hello all! My name is Ari Gelb, and I am a junior Musical Theatre student at WSU. This semester in the DLab (our entirely student-run performance space), we will be putting up the premiere performance of omg we ate a guy! Written by Andrea Staats, this play was brought to me by my mentee, and I immediately fell in love with the witty humor, delicate approach to heavy topics, and the incredible characters. When Shawntelle accidentally kills Brett in self-defense, she and her BYU roommates are concerned about her chances in the criminal justice system, and decide the obvious solution is to eat the evidence. Just when it seems they’ve gotten away with it, Brett comes back to haunt them… literally. The women will have to think outside the Mormon box in order to get rid of Brett for good.

This process has been more than wonderful, but I have found that to execute the value that this production deserves, I must ask my community for aid. To give you an idea of where the funds will be going, we are hoping to create a realistic set, quality props and costumes, and most importantly, compensate the people who are integral to our show - the tech designers, makeup artists, photographer, and of course, our playwright.

In addition, we will be collecting donations for Project Woman, a Springfield based organization that provides care and essential items. We will be running a drive the week of our show and working to raise money to help uplift the real women in our community who are in need of help.
