Omen, a fourteen-month-old Bernese, has a severe left hip subluxation. She needs a new total left hip replacement to walk without extreme pain. This fundraiser is for her, and this is her story:
A little over a year ago, a tiny girl was born - fluffy, brilliant, and unconditionally loving. This little gift to our home was named Omen. Since then, she discovered the joy of sticks, chasing her feline siblings, training basic commands, and assuming her role as an official morale-boosting "pawficer" at CMU.
And, she continued to grow...
And grow...
And grow some more!
At seven months old, a strangeness in Omen's gait started to become more pronounced.
Her veterinarian believed it to be growing pains or residual lameness from her bad reaction to the Lyme vaccine. We were to keep an eye on her and see how she developed as she approached her full height.
Omen continued to grow into a beautiful pup, who enjoyed the outdoors and cheering up strangers. Unfortunately, an odd gait was progressing into an apparent disability. At around one-year-old, Omen went to the vet again to check on her lame left leg. This time she was referred to an emergency vet for a full x-ray.
The x-rays revealed a severe subluxation of Omen's left hip. The emergency vet confirmed that the subluxation and resulting pain were causing Omen's lameness. She needed surgery ASAP and was immediately referred to The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center. After a month on the waiting list, Omen was scheduled for Total Hip Replacement (THR) on February 15th, 2023.
The OSU cost estimate is between $6344.75 and $7170.00 for the procedure - this is where your donation features in this story. Every cent raised will go directly to Omen's surgery cost. Any remaining amount will be donated to The Pet Fund (https://www.thepetfund.com/to-donate) to help other families with emergency veterinary costs.
With immense gratitude,
Brittany & Omen
