Help Omar Recover from Emergency Surgery

Over the weekend, Omar began experiencing excruciating abdominal pain; he described it as a “12 out of 10.” At first, we hoped it was a severe case of gastritis, but as the pain intensified and his condition worsened, it became clear something more serious was unfolding.

On Sunday and Monday, Omar received IV treatment in Placencia and Independence, but by Monday evening, we knew we were facing a medical emergency. With his symptoms escalating and his bowel completely inactive for days, we rushed him to Belmopan on Tuesday.

There, Omar was admitted to St. Luke’s Private Hospital, where the medical team quickly recognized the urgency of his condition. He underwent an emergency Exploratory Laparotomy, a major surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat serious abdominal issues. In Omar’s case, the surgery confirmed an intestinal obstruction, a life-threatening condition that required immediate intervention.

Thanks to the skilled and compassionate care of the team at St. Luke’s, the surgery was successful. Omar is now receiving post-operative care and undergoing further testing to ensure his recovery stays on track. We remain hopeful but cautious; this journey is far from over.
