Omar’s Car Accident Recovery
Donation protected
On Sunday, June 26, Omar was driving to his job at the Eclectic Cafe and was hit by another car whose driver did not have insurance. With the help of a few bystanders and EMTs, he was able to be pulled out of his totaled car but sustained many injuries. After being rushed to the hospital and enduring emergency surgery, the doctors revealed the extent of his injuries, which included a shattered right hip and broken left collarbone. Since the surgery, Omar has been staying in the hospital to recover (and entertain the nurses with his jokes). In the upcoming days, he will be moving to a physical rehabilitation center where he will learn to use his hip and arm again. Once he is strong enough to leave the facility, he will move back home and continue to heal with physical therapy.
Omar is incredibly active and is ALWAYS on the move. At the Eclectic Cafe, you could always find him going from table to table to talk to customers. If he wasn't with a customer, he would be dancing in the back or in the kitchen, cooking meals for everyone. At home, he loves running around and going to the dog park with my dog, Watson. Even when relaxing, you could find Omar playing his guitar or drawing cartoons. All this goes to say that losing his ability to walk and move for now has been extremely hard on him, especially since he is only 18 years old. In August, he was planning to attend in-person classes at Pima Community College to study music, but he may have to attend online or delay his start due to his injuries. He was also set to start working and learning culinary skills in another restaurant kitchen on Tuesday, June 28, but this will now be delayed or canceled. Instead, Omar will be out of work while he focuses on his health and recovery.
Omar, his family, and I (his girlfriend) really need support for covering his hospital bills, rehabilitation, supportive equipment, and other expenses resulting from the accident. He is extremely eager to get moving again and has been working hard with the physical therapists and doctors. He misses seeing his friends and family outside of a hospital room and can't wait to start moving forward. A donation would mean so much to him and us so that we can focus on his recovery.
If you have the time, please wish him a speedy recovery; messages from people in his life have kept him in good spirits despite everything he is going through. He is so kind and really needs all the support he can get right now.
