Hello! My name is Gavyn and I'm 5 years old. My favorite color is orange, my favorite people are my three brothers, and I want to be a helper when I grow up!
When I was two weeks old I contracted an infection and became very ill, very fast. I spent 21 days in a pediatric hospital fighting for my life. I won! But I didn't walk away unscarred. I now live with a condition called Hydrocephalus . In simple terms it is water on the brain. When I was two months old I had my first brain surgery, my surgeon placed a mechanism in my brain that runs down into my belly called a Shunt . My shunt keeps me healthy and moving forward! I have had a total of five brain surgeries and I now live with two shunts, I'm extra special! I also had an ETV done during my last week long hospital stay. I'm a tough guy.
This fall my physical therapist started having me ride an adapted bike from Freedom Concepts. I LOVE riding the bike! I never thought I would be able to ride a bike with my low muscle tone and the dangers of me falling off and hitting my head. This bike gives me lots of support and safety but, it also gives me independce and speed! I have been working very hard to learn to ride the bike and now that the weather is nice I am able to ride it outside at therapy.
I have two older brothers and a younger brother. We live on a very quiet and flat street with lots of kids. When the weather is nice everyone is outside playing. Could you help my family raise money to bring a bike home of my very own? I would like it so much to be able to play with my brothers and friends this year!
