Olympic Pursuit -Patrick Farias Skeleton Athlete

Donation protected
Hi there!
My name is Patrick Farias, I am a 25 year old prospect Skeleton Athlete for team Canada in the winter sliding sport of Skeleton. If you are wondering....yes. It is indeed the crazy one in which you slide down ice head first over 130km/hr.

I have been trying to make it to the Olympic games, and compete for Canada since I was six years old. My sports career hit many speed bumps and dead ends which have helped mold me into the persistent and passionate athlete I am today. After being forced to retire twice from sports I loved due to injuries, I found myself starting from scratch at 20 years old in a brand new sport, determined as ever to fulfill an Olympic dream. At 18 years old and only four years away from, what I was hoping would be, a shot at fulfilling my goal to compete in the Rio 2016 Olympics as a gymnast, I suffered a injury that placed me in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) rehab for nine months and ultimately led to my retirement from gymnastics and kept me out of all physical activity for two years. Having already had to stop playing football two years prior due to concussions, doctors had told me that I had reached the limit of my athletic career and would never be able to compete, or even train, in any sport, ever again. Now, seven years after this injury, I have competed in numerous provincial and a national championship both in the indoor and outdoor track seasons, as a varsity sprinter for McGill University, before ultimately being noticed and recruited by Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton (BCS) three years ago. Since my recruitment to BCS, I finished my undergraduate degree (a BSc. in Honors Biology) and decided to fully commit to pursing my childhood dream of competing in the Olympic Games by moving across the country to be full time with Team Canada's Next Gen Skeleton team. As a member of the Next Gen Skeleton National team I had the privilege of competing in ASA and ABA Cup races and Championships during the 2018-2019 season, as well as an 8th place finish in the 2019 Canadian National Championships. Last years season was highlighted by earning the privilege to slide as a forerunner in a North America's Cup race and a World Cup Race, where I gained the experience of witnessing first hand how the world's best compete and race.  This experience also came with the realization that in order to continue having success in this sport, outside aid, funding, and sponsorship will be necessary.

The funds I am seeking will help to get me through this upcoming 2019-2020 season. As a prospective/developmental athlete aiming for a spot on a Cup team this year for the national team, we are expected to fund our own journey to represent Canada on an international stage. As such, funds will be used for travel to and from competitions  (approx 2000$/season) , lodging during competitions and training camps (approx 1500$/season), physio treatments (approx 1000$/season), sport specific equipment such as shoes, gloves, sled repairs, sanding equipment for runners (the "skates" of the sled)(approx 1500$/season), training and athletic facility fees (1000$/season). All together these major fees account for the 7000$ I am looking for. While I work full time during the off-season to save up to afford other necessities such as proper nutrition and recovery as best I can, holding a full-time and even part-time position during the competitive season becomes very difficult due to the requirements of travelling for competitions and training.

I would like to sincerely thank you for your time and consideration. Each and every donation, no matter the amount, are tremendously appreciated and will be used to help drive forward my pursuit of this Olympic dream and representing Canada. Your donations make you a part of this journey and will be forever remembered and honored through any achievement which my come due to your generosity!
