Olwitchneider Sainclair Calling for support

Dear donors,

I, Olwitchneider Sainclair, born in 1995 in Port-au-Prince, Haïti, am a spoken word poet living and working in Istanbul, Turkey.

I am partly self-taught, but I benefited from a range of training opportunities that helped me develop my talents and interests. In 2015, I participated in two poetic writing and slam workshops with Prix Goncourt winner Gaël Faye and the hip hop band Milk Coffee and Sugar at the French Institute in Haiti, as well as a workshop with Saul Williams at the Fondasyon Konesans Ak Libète/the Foundation for Knowledge and Liberty (FOKAL).

I am writing to ask for your support. I am fundraising for a music video and a music recording at the studio in Istanbul. The project title is ‘‘Mountains to Climb''. With this project I seek to identify the intellectual tools and the creative force necessary to show through my music and paintings how to build another life abroad, and to highlight the difference between travel and exile. I seek to develop a collective consciousness in the face of persistent inequalities and injustices, which are at the heart of the many recent protests and uprisings around the world.

To carry out this project - the composition and interpretation of Spoken Word Music (and slam poetry) - I will need several professional musicians, drummers, guitarists, pianists, singers to accompany me in this project so that I can deliver my messages with soul.

My second music video with the Haitian drummer singer, Zikiki, that I created in 2019, with the Italian-based filmmaker Alberto Danelli, who works and lives in London. This video-clip shows the reality, crime, killing, suffering and everyday Haitian people struggle against the discrimination and politcal disease, in the hope one day for something better, for flowers growing back in the desert, as I said with Zikiki.

Your donation will help me a lot to settle into Turkish culture.

Migration is a reality of life for most people and the music video that will come soon ''Mountains to climb'' is in the same spirit as my approach when I draw, that is to say to fight with what you have.

I would like also to ask you to share your experiences with me about traveling and migration and from your stories I will draw a symbolic painting where I will give you the credit on my video.
