Over the 2014 holidays I had some left hand coordination issues. Checking into the emergency room on December 28, and a few tests later I was diagnosed with stage 4 Gliobastoma Multiforme, a rare always terminal very aggressive brain cancer.
The Surgeons prognosis was 6-12 months. My operation was on New Years eve day. My whole world went dark. All I could think about was my kids not having a father. I thought they are young adults but i couldn't bare to think of them without some guidance from their Dad. I would never get to be the grandfather I dreamt of. Things seemed grim. I had a hard time understanding why us.
Then I started reading about people who had the same prognosis, but with good nutrition and lifestyle changes they out lived their prognosis by years.
As I saw the bills piling up and waiting endlessly for disability, I got well enough to go back to work while on the treatments.
Then I realized if my bills are this much with good insurance what about patients who don't have good insurance or who weren't fortunate enough to go back to work.
How could they afford to eat nutritiously, meditation to relieve stress( stress is known to be an issue when trying fight any illness).
I changed my whole outlook, and my diet to help fight my cancer with my own rescources within my body.
It was in my last week of Radiation Therapy when I realized how lucky I actually was, and how many people had it more difficult than me.
I started to read and research more about cancer, traditional medicene, the money that goes into research with very few improvements in cancer cures or treatments.
Billions of dollars happen into the corporate coffers and the patient suffers with no quality of life. In a $100 Billion business, there has to be room to help the patient right?
Tens of Billions of dollars are raised through donations every year for cancer research. what if even a fraction of that was given to help the patient directly.
Help educate the patient on Nutritious food that are known to help their body battle disease.
Help the patient to buy the nutritious foods to help them battle their disease with their own rescources within their bodies as well as medical treatments if they so choose.
Help the patient with their copays to ease the financial burden.
Help the patient afford exercise class, or meditation, yoga.
Help the patient with transportion costs to treatments if needed, many patients are to ill to drive.
We are here to help the patient.
We care and give we ask you to do the same.
Thank You,
David Stansfield
