Hi All,
Our son Ollie, is currently age 14. He is a great kid and never moans about the difficulties he is currently dealing with. He loves his football, gaming and Army cadets and still somehow manages to do really well.
However, early 2023 we noticed some changes in his back/spine and was later diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis.
He has taken this in his stride but as you can see from the photo's, The bend in his spine has become quite extreme and he needs to have urgent surgery.
We constantly have to remind ourselves that Ollie can't do things that you or I would take for granted, this impacts his everyday life in more ways than you can imagine but through it all he has kept a positive attitude and is always finding ways to even make us laugh during this tough time and will hopefully continue to be his cheeky self.
The NHS have taken so long to get him this far that we have had to go to a private Consultant in London to try and speed up the process as his pain levels are increasing along with the bullying that he is now receiving at school! Kids can be so mean sometimes.
The consultant has advised us that corrective surgery is the only option due to the speed that this is worsening, and Ollie still has approx 4 years of growth to deal with. Our options are, to wait for the NHS referral (minimum 6 months), or go private and he could have surgery possibly as soon as September (2024).
Obviously this comes at a cost and we now have a full Interim Quote of £69,850 which we can show anyone if they would like to see.
So in short we are desperately in real need for some financial help. We cant afford to speed up the process ourselves but, Oliver really cannot afford to wait as the consultant has stated that if we wait then his spine will rapidly get worse, the surgery will be more difficult and it will increase the risk of not getting his spine as straight as he would like.
So if you could find it in your hearts to donate whatever you can for Ollie to give him the best chance in Surgery and therefore the best chance of a relatively normal life.
Thanks for taking the time to read our story and if you are able to help then that would be amazing. Please send this as far and wide as you possibly can.
Also if by pure miracle the NHS do suddenly step up and bring the surgery forward on their part, then we can request gofundme to refund specific donors or we could donate any excess/unused funds to charity (including Scoliosis Support and research, and Cancer Research uk and obviously close down this GoFundMe page.
Lots of love and best wishes to you all
from all of us in the family. Xxx
