Hi my name is Sam and a week into the new year this year my son (Ollie) was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. This is a rare form of cancer and rarer still his primary tumour site is in his foot, after further testing we found this had metastasised to his pancreas, spine and bone marrow. He was given a 10% chance of success of treatment. We are currently 6 months in with intensive chemo and he is due to start radiation in a few weeks. Unfortunately surgery isn’t an option for Ollie as the surgery would leave him amputated and doctors have advised to proceed with chemo and radiation. At this time we don’t know his long term prognosis as undergoing the intensive chemo he has been has caused some heart failure which is also being monitored carefully with regular check ups and medication. Ollies relapse rate for this cancer is incredibly high so even if we manage to get him into remission the likelihood is it would return within 5 years and sadly he would not be able to go ahead with any more chemo due to his heart. I would love to take him and his sisters to Florida Disney to see Cars world and Harry Potter world as these are two of his big passions in life and we would love to be able to create an amazing memory as a family while he is still able to. Ollie has been an avid cars fan since he was 1 and had the dream to become an animator at Disney when he grew up.
