Shortly after putting everything into a big move, Ollie began experiencing severe back pain, exhaustion, and significant weight loss.
At first, he thought it was just the stress of moving and the work ahead on their new house. However, imaging revealed a large, near football-sized tumor in his retroperitoneum.
The tumor is encasing nerves and his main artery, pushing on a muscle and his left kidney. The pain has been incapacitating for Ollie, making it impossible for him to manage daily tasks or enjoy his favorite summer activities like kayaking and motorcycling.
Ollie has been diagnosed with retroperitoneal sarcoma, an exceedingly rare form of cancer (about .07-.2% of cancers). Most oncologists rarely see this in their career – it’s a complex cancer and requires specialized care.
He will be taking intermittent leave from work for ongoing treatment, and Shelby will also be on leave to care for him. Their dreams of fixing up their new house have been paused for the foreseeable future, as Ollie’s health is now the number one priority.
Their loved ones have started this fund to support them during this immensely difficult time. Ollie is one of the most generous and caring people we know, and we want to be there for him like he's always been there for us.
There is no pressure to give if you are unable, but this fund will hopefully provide a cushion to support Ollie during his treatment and recovery. Any support will help Ollie and Shelby focus on what matters most—his health and healing.
