Ollie's Hope Fund

“Ollie” Hope McKeone (they/them) is a kind and gentle 23-year old who has touched everyone in their life. A Senior at Kutztown University, Ollie is an anthropology major who planned to intern at the Pennsylvania German Heritage Center in the fall. Combining their love of art with their anthropology major, Ollie’s career goal is to become a museum curator.  They were just on the cusp of starting on the path of independence and a bright future.

April 10, 2022 started out as a normal Sunday on campus for Ollie, but then tragedy struck and their bright future was put on hold. As the hardworking diligent student they are, Ollie submitted two important essays that afternoon and headed out onto campus. They reached the main crosswalk that connects two sides of the campus and crosses over the busy main street going into Kutztown Borough.  Ollie looked both ways, and started crossing.  Before they reached the other side, Ollie was struck by a distracted driver.

Ollie was rushed to a nearby trauma hospital with multiple fractures, contusions, and wounds. As of today, April 15, they are still in critical condition.  The situation is very serious but they have been responsive. We have a very long recovery process ahead of us, many weeks of hospitalization followed by a long period of rehabilitation. There is still a lot unknown about what is ahead, but Ollie is supported by many.

This tragic accident is devastating to Ollie’s entire support system. They are loved desperately by their family and a large community of friends. My name is Grace McKeone, and I am their little sister. I’ve witnessed first hand the bright light that shines from Ollie wherever they go. As the oldest of two, Ollie took their job as a sibling seriously from the time I was born. They have always been the most compassionate, supportive, loving person in my life. They love all living things, and find immense joy in the little things in life. They point out every dog they see, and they hoard stuffed animals or any gift they have ever received. They are a talented artist. Ollie was bursting with potential, and everyone around them was so excited to see where life would take them.

Now that tragedy has struck, this bright future will have to be put on hold. We don’t know for how long or what changes will have to be made, but we are certain Ollie will make the most out of whatever happens, as they have done their whole life. I started this GoFundMe because I wanted to help my parents and sibling as much as I possibly can. Some of the proceeds will go to help with the physical and mental rehabilitation. Another part of the proceeds will be going to ensure the brightest of futures possible for Ollie, whatever the circumstances may be.

At this time, your prayers are the most important. We greatly appreciate the overwhelming support we have already received. I don’t think Ollie realizes the immense impact they have made on so many people, but after they come out of this they surely will. Thank you for your contribution to Ollie’s Hope
