Olivia’s Journey in Athletics

My name is Rachel and I am the mother of Olivia Gitzen. I was barely 17 years old when I found out I was pregnant. It was a very difficult time for me because I was doing my best to take care of my 5 younger siblings, working 2 jobs, keeping good grades, running track, attending church, trying to keep my mentally ill father in check, and having a social life. It was a lot, and more times than not, I did not have the support I needed to thrive.

Olivia is now 11 years old. She starts 6th grade this year, and she just got her braces put on. She’s a social butterfly and she is a light to so many people around her. She’s amazing at making TikToks, she’s an extremely dedicated ball player with so much potential, and she has strong connections with her peers.

Olivia only missed one year of cheerleading since starting Cave City School District in 1st grade. Though she did not make the original list after tryouts for the upcoming school year, she has since been offered a spot on the squad. The coaches believe she deserves to be on the team and they’re excited to have her back.

Cheer practice starts July 7th and dues are $300.

Basketball will start typically the first week of school and she will again need new ball shoes, a ball bag, warm-ups, hair ties, headbands, socks, and a stock supply of water bottles and/or Gatorade.

We are trying to raise up the money that she needs to pay her dues as well as have the things she needs for the upcoming athletic season. Even with both parents' income factored in, sports are insanely expensive and consume a lot of time and energy for everyone involved.

Having a positive support system makes a lasting impact and changes the lives of children who have what it takes to be successful. Every single contribution to this child’s life is a blessing and a reminder that they can do whatever they set their mind to because people love & support them.
