I made this for your enjoyment and contemplation: https://soundcloud.com/user-406457921/youll-be-glad-you-did-demo/s-kE7PYesIKx3
I have known that I needed this surgery since I was 10 years old, I am now 21. My pediatric dentist recommended that double jaw surgery was the best option for me once I stopped growing to correct a potentially painful future.
Orthognathic surgery will correct my severe underbite and cross bite. Beyond that, it will also improve my breathing and air flow, my digestion, my speech, alleviate joint pain and soreness, I'll stop grinding down my teeth, and prevent bone loss. Right now, I cannot bite, just rip. Also, to be transparent, it will remove my biggest insecurity.
I am a singer. I know what you're thinking. This surgery is a risk.
The first few weeks of recovery there will be no singing, minimal talking, and lots of numbness as my nerves readjust. I have done extensive research into how this is done, what recovery looks like, and what this means for me as a singer. I have even been in contact with a few singers and others who have gone through exactly what I am going through. They have all said this was the best decision of their life. Hearing that from several people has been extremely reassuring. They have even told me that it improved their singing. I want to fix this now so I never have to worry about the way it will affect my health and my career in the future.
This is the perfect time for me to do it. I am ready, but I need some support to make it happen.
I am asking for help today because the healthcare system has made my journey significantly more difficult. You'd think having health insurance would make it easy, but it hasn’t, this time. There are some major limits on what they've been able to do for me. I also refuse to go to just any surgeon or allow a surgical student in training do it (this was looking like my fate). No disrespect to any of these people, there is just absolutely no room for error and I believe that I owe it to myself to do everything on my end to ensure that. This is also not a reflection of how hard my family and I are working to make this happen, but the best path and option we planned have been taken away by a change in health coverage not of our making.
I already know the surgeon who is best for me, I just need to be able to pay for him. The surgery will take place in June/July 2021. The cost is $42,000 and I need to raise $30,000.
If you help me, I can guarantee you a few things:
1. A thank you on my debut EP I plan to release after recovery.
2. Less reluctance to take pictures (this one is more for my family who are tired of me griping about it)
3. A much happier and more confident Olivia.
If you feel more comfortable donating to my venmo it is @OliviaAR3
If you have read all of this, that alone means a lot to me. Thank you so much for supporting my journey in any way you can.
