To know Dan, Tricia, and their children is to love them. Kind, caring, generous and genuine, they are the people we are fortunate enough to have in our lives. They need us in their lives more than ever right now. Many of you have been aware of the recent struggles they have faced within their family, and they once again find themselves faced with a formidable challenge. Their sweet daughter Olivia, after experiencing what appeared to be a routine case of the stomach bug, has now found herself facing serious and uncertain medical concerns, her kidneys abruptly failing her, while simultaneously struggling with a yet to be explained clotting of her blood cells. Olivia is currently being cared for at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington. In her difficult stay there so far, she has experienced the ER, the result of being rushed by ambulance from Plattsburgh, the ICU for plasma transfusions to address her kidneys, and is now being treated in the hematology unit trying to identify the underlying cause behind the blood clotting issue. The Harts are a modest family with modest means… Tricia has had to temporarily close her doors as a day care provider and Dan, a self-employed contractor, has had to put his work on hold so that they can direct their energy to what’s most valued- their daughter’s health and welfare. The physical, mental, emotional and of course financial strains are high. I spent this previous weekend at the hospital with them, and it became clearly evident to me how expenses can rapidly add up. From hotels to travel expenses to meals to loss of work, their circumstance requires some intervention, and that’s where I am asking for your help.
