On 10/21/19 Olivia was born with Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome, and several other heart defects. She was born at Prentice Women’s Hospital in Chicago, IL where she had a brief NICU stay and then was transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital’s Cardiac ICU where she stayed for 3 weeks.
Since her discharge from the hospital on 11/11/19,she had a series of 8 hospitalizations, one of which was for a pre-surgery catheterization of her heart, and another being Open Heart Surgery (the Glenn Procedure.) During this time she was sent home with medical equipment (including oxygen tanks and a pulse-ox machine,) on several mediations, and in serval therapies for delays due to hospitalizations.
As we were not yet residents of Illinois (we moved from Indiana to be closer to the hospital as suggested by our cardiac team) we did not qualify for Medicaid nor did we qualify for financial assistance from the hospital. We only had limited and brief insurance coverage due to me (mother) having to leave my work in order to care for our new medically complex baby (as highly suggested by our medical team.)
Unfortunately, medical bills have come in faster than we have been able to pay them off and we are no longer able to keep. We know times are hard for everyone and appreciate any help and if unable to donate, sharing is greatly appreciated as well!
Thank you,
Martinez Family
