Hello everyone,
On the 29th of November, my sister Ashley and brother in law Paul noticed their baby Olive wheezing. Sunday Dec 2nd, Paul and Ashley rushed Olive to the urgent care and left with the provider saying, “she just has a virus and it needs to runs it’s course.” Thursday, Dec 5th Ashley took Olive to her routine 9mo checkup and was grateful to have her pediatrician listen to Olive’s breathing. Her pediatrician knew OLLIE DID NOT have a virus. Paul picked Abri up from preschool and met Ashley at the Cardon’s Children’s Hospital Emergency Room. Olive had a X-Ray, CT scan and MRI that revealed a mass in her chest near her lungs and trachea which narrowed her airway to 4mm. Olive was placed on a ventilator and surgery was to be scheduled for Friday, Dec 6th. Over that weekend she was able to have the ventilator removed for a couple days and surgery was rescheduled for Monday, Dec 10. On Monday, the surgeon rescheduled the surgery for Friday, Dec. 14. Seeking a second opinion, Ashley and Paul took Olive to Phoenix Children’s Hospital Emergency Room. She received excellent care and she had the mass removed by the surgical team at Phoenix Children’s Hospital on December 13th. The surgery went very well and the mass was removed with one nerve that was intertwined in the mass was being severed. She has had a slow recovery. She caught a rhinovirus (common cold) and spent a few nights in the PICU so she could be closely monitored. She has been weening off the oxygen since. The preliminary pathology report revealed no cancer! However, there was concern for a bacterial infection and the mass was sent for further testing. She has had blood drawn to be tested for a bacterial infection as well. They are currently awaiting the results of these tests and they hope to be home for Christmas. These funds would help Ashley and Paul cover some of the medical expenses accrued while spending the past few weeks in the hospital. Please join me in supporting and praying for the recovery of baby Olive.
