I'm Oliver Landewe, A freshman attending Brooklyn Technical High School in Brooklyn, New York. I have always been passionate about our environment, and especially, animals. This summer I have an amazing opportunity to not only explore a new part of our world but to learn more about marine animals I love and how they affect our ecosystem. After hearing about the CIEE program (Council on International Educational Exchange) through my school I was instantly intrigued by all the different trips and learning experiences they offered. After scrolling through their website one program in particular caught my eye. A trip to Spain to study marine ecosystems in Palma de Mallorca. This program has it all. This 3-week summer experience is a chance to study the things I'm passionate about, to do it in a real setting, and to be in a community of other passionate learners. It is also an opportunity to speak and practice my Spanish. It was my perfect program, which you can see more about here: ( https://www.ciee.org/go-abroad/high-school-study-abroad/summer/programs/spain/palma-de-mallorca/mediterranean-marine-ecosystems-sustainability ).
After going through the long application process, including writing a number of essays, I was accepted and I received a scholarship of 2500! Even though this is a very generous amount of financial aid, the program and airfare will cost $5050 in total. I’m planning to raise and contribute up to $750 of my own money this summer, but I'm still looking to raise the remaining $4300. I'm very excited to be one step closer to attending this program and am so grateful for any amount of support you can offer!
