Oliver’s heart and cancer journey

From the words of Oliver’s mommy: “When Oliver was in heart failure and we had to be admitted to the hospital for our long stay, my heart broke. When Oliver was turning blue and struggling to walk and catch his breath while waiting for his heart, my heart broke. When Oliver received his new heart and he was in tears with pain and pushing through therapy, my heart broke. But today, our hearts are breaking all over again. His colonoscopy revealed that his colon is covered in ulcers. The ulcers were then biopsied. Biopsy results came back positive for PTLD (a post transplant cancer). Now our baby has to fight cancer. All the thoughts and feelings are rapidly taking over. I'm trying not to let the negative feelings completely override my mind and body so I can be everything he needs right now. "This can't be happening to him" has left my mouth so frequently. I try not to throw around the "this isn't fair" card but holy moly... This is definitely so unfair. He's fought so hard and now he has a whole new battle to get through. He was already making plans for trips this summer and fall. As Oliver says "I have so much I need to do." Thomas the train is coming to Dallas in the fall and he wants to see Salem during Halloween. He wants to see a white sand beach, go on a plane and take the camper on trips. And now time has stopped for us. Once again. Please keep Oliver in your thoughts and prayers as today they will move forward with placing a port for his treatment and checking his bone marrow with a biopsy while under. He'll begin chemotherapy as soon as possible. Please pray he tolerates it smoothly. Please pray for his strength. Please pray for his body to heal. -One very defeated, overwhelmed, sad mommy.” With that being said, Oliver is in a state of medical crisis, and both parents will need to be available. Unfortunately, this also means that so many worries, concerns, and fears are coming all at once. To help his parents focus on solely on Oliver's day to day care, we have created this fundraiser in hopes of alleviating some financial burden. We know our nephew will continue to fight, but his parents ability to keep fighting for him requires some help from those near and far.
