Hi, I’m Angie, I adopted Oliver from NEKO Cat Cafe (some of you might know me as a Bellingham Cat Bouncer and Pawtender, and him as Bubbles formerly!) through Whatcom Humane Society in 2020. This past month Ollie had been having some seemingly minor medical issues that have escalated pretty rapidly and unexpectedly as of this morning, and we could really use some help.

Oliver first presented some urinary tract infection type issues earlier in the month and was seen urgently by Kulshan Vet as soon as I noticed something was off, but we ultimately didn’t find a blockage and brought him home after getting an anti-inflammatory shot, for what we thought was the end of it. A few weeks went by and he seemed okay, until December 29th we noticed his behavior with the litter box was suddenly very concerning, so I immediately took him to Animal Emergency Care that night, where we ran bloodwork and a complete urinalysis and it was summed up as a partial urinary blockage/Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) and he was discharged that same night after a few hours, racking up $800 in treatment which was discounted to $600 thanks to some great friends of mine at AEC.

We started on his medications (antibiotic and two pain management medications) the next morning and things very clearly were not improving. He slept in his litter box the first night, stopped eating and drinking completely, was drooling, and was having no luck passing anything in the litter box. I called AEC at the 12 and 24 hour marks after his discharge to assess with the vets, and decided I would bring him back to AEC in the morning as things weren’t necessarily getting worse but they weren’t getting better, and these issues are time sensitive.

After bringing him back to AEC this morning, 36 hours after initially being discharged, the vet told me she suspected his kidneys might be shutting down and that she felt our best option was to treat the situation aggressively and move forward with a 24-48 hour hospitalization, which required a $3,000 deposit.

I don’t have much more information at the moment, they said no news is good news, but things are still very up in the air and I suspect these won’t be the last of my bills, unless things take a turn for the worst.

I paid all $3,600 up front, out of my savings, so there are no running balances at the vet to donate directly to, but I will attach pictures of both invoices.

His brother Alix misses him and I will be so devastated if he doesn’t make it back home. I’m trying to stay positive and am fully prepared to do anything it takes to bring him home safely, but I’d be lying if I said this isn’t a huge financial burden.
