Olga Viera

Hi guys. My name is Frenchy, and I am creating a Gofundme to support Laura Salcedo Viera. My dearest friend since the beginning of freshman year high school.

Without warning, Laura and her family faced numerous losses and challenges in the short span of this past week, ultimately culminating in the passing of their beloved mother Olga Viera. Olga passed at 3:08am last night at Beth Israel hospital from health complications.

Laura also had lost her precious pet cat Poe to cancer just two days prior. Poe was her baby.

Olga Viera, originally from El Salvador, worked tirelessly to provide for her family despite long term health challenges. Through physical pain and exhaustion, her mother has always been warm and witty, generous and sarcastic. A strong, opinionated character who just recently enjoyed the exciting rush of the best World Cup Final ever from the comfort of her home while her daughter Laura narrated her mom’s joy over the phone to her friends. She was loving and caring. Whenever we would come over, she would fix us a hot plate. Made sure we were not hungry after school.

Ever since we’ve known Laura, she has committed herself selflessly and humbly to caring for her family, making choices with them in mind before herself. As she got older, she only took on more responsibility, becoming the main caregiver for her immediate family. Eduardo, her younger brother, has also done what he can to help support his big sister.

The passing of her mother is a result of enormous failures of our health care system, our immigration system, our economy, etc., and as such has presented a long list of unexpected expenses. As her friends who see the responsibility Laura already carries everyday to maintain her family, we would like to help with some of the expenses as she adjusts to life without her mom.

Olga is survived by her three children, sister, husband, nephew and granddaughter.
