ABOUT THE CREATOR AND FILM
Hello, my name is Brett Jones, and I'm a senior at the University of Arizona studying Film and Television Production. Over the next year, all my time and energy will be put into a thesis film that will complete my degree requirements. Everything I've been working toward as a student has led to this film, and because of that, I want my thesis film to have a heart. I want to make something that has real significance and that people can genuinely connect with.
My film is set in an America that has been torn apart, not far from the one we have today. It's a world where differences are never understood, and wounds are never healed. It is a nation in trauma, with its roots reaching back to the Civil War and even earlier. This trauma goes as far as to affect the young girl in this film. Her horrific experience of losing her family has left her with deep scars. She struggles to find her sense of compassion and trust in a world that has taken so much from her. It’s the same struggle we face in such a divided nation. I think that through this young girl, we can find the path toward healing.
This story has so much influence from my home in southern Kansas. Where I come from and the culture I was raised in is deeply rooted in me. The fiddle tunes and folk tales at the county fairs, the stories from my parents and grandparents about our family history and the people we come from. I think this all directly ties to the story of our nation and, by extension, my film. From a folk song-inspired soundtrack to the story and visuals, everything in my film will have a little slice of home.
WHERE THE FUNDS GO
The funds you donate directly impact every facet of the project. As college students, our funds are limited, and every dollar goes a long way. The money you donate will go toward feeding our cast and crew, providing costumes, props, set pieces, specialty production equipment like generators and camera cranes, and supporting the film in distribution. Every dollar will have a visible effect on the screen, and we would be beyond grateful and humbled for anything you’re willing to give. As an additional token of appreciation, each donor will be given credit in the film and can opt-in to a newsletter providing updates on the film's production.
