One night Bailey tried to jumped on the bed as she usually does, mid leap something happened and she just let out a loud cry. I picked her up and comforted her. I didn’t know what was wrong, so I held her and she seemed okay but as hours went by, things got worse. I could tell there was something off. In the middle of the night she kept sitting up, which is very unlike her to now sleep through the night. I thought she was just thirsty or something so I let her down and took her to get water but she wouldn’t move unless I carried her. She didn’t sleep much that night so I took her to the vet first thing in the morning. They diagnosed her with a ruptured disc but they needed a second opinion so they referred me to a neurologist. Both visits were $300 because they took xrays. The second vet confirmed it was a disc herniation and she needed surgery but they needed at least $6,000 upfront. I didn’t have that, my parents didn’t have that, I applied for CareCredit, I got denied, I told them I didn’t have the money so they told us to keep her on crate rest for 2-3 weeks and gave her three types of pain medication and something to help with the anxiety of being in the crate. But said she would still need surgery to remove it. They called it “a rock in a shoe” and explained that she has a good chance to walk again with the crate rest but if we don’t get her the surgery, and she jumps the wrong way, it could burst again and really hurt her chances of walking. We did the crate rest for about 2 weeks and we saw improvement. Little by little, she was walking again. Not normal but still good, but we had to make sure she didn’t jump on or off the couch or bed. I called a different vets and finally found a specialist that would do the same surgery for $4,000 up front instead of $6,000. She’s on her last bottle of pain medication so I’m praying we make it to our goal before she finishes it. I tried spacing out when I give it to her from twice a day to once a day but by doing that, caused her to hurt again. Thank you for all the support, Bailey love, and donations.
