St. Edward's Secondary School is a Catholic boys' school in Freetown, Sierra Leone founded in 1922 by the Catholic Mission. In 1865, the Catholic priests started St. Edward's Primary, which was the junior school, and it was in 1922 that they made provisions for boys from the junior school to continue in secondary education with the Catholic ethos. Girls were later admitted at 6th form level only and this has now ceased. Since 1922, St. Edward's Secondary school has made contributions to Sierra Leone and positioned itself as one of the most admired academic institution.
The Old Edwardian's Association (OEA) is an Alma Mater of the St. Edward's Secondary School in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Old Edwardian's Association UK & Ireland branch was setup in 1987 and initially provided a platform for ex-pupils to socialise, but it soon became apparent that we could raise funds and make some difference in the lives of the current school goers.
Over the years, the OEA UK & Ireland became a registered charity in the UK and has taken on several projects at the school from funds raised, from school infrastructure to investment in staff and bursary to pupils. Currently, the Old Edwardian's UK & Ireland branch is venturing into their biggest project at the school to date.
With the school’s Centenary celebrations coming up in February 2022, we have identified a few projects to meet the Centenary and improve the lives of the staff and students at the St. Edward's Secondary School. Our aim is to provide a worthy surrounding in which teachers can teach and the student learn at will.
Therefore, we are asking for your help in realising one of the many identified projects; this is the Refurbishment and Construction of a New Toilet Block. We hope to have this constructed and be commissioned on 6th February 2022. We proposed £50,000 to have this facility that complements the existing structure and can cater for the growing school population within a healthy and serene environment.
On behalf of the Old Edwardian's Association UK & Ireland, we sincerely thank you for making this a reality.
