ODU Women’s Lacrosse Alumni, Jessi Deluca, started the 9/11
Remembrance Dinner in 2016. Her goal was to bring together student-athletes, the local community
and those who are here to protect us. Jessi is originally from New York and her father was a
Firefighter during the 9/11 attack. Therefore, 9/11 has been something very close to her heart. We
continue to do this event annually for Jessi, her father, those impacted by 9/11, our local responders,
and those around the world who fight to protect their communities. The 9/11 Remembrance Dinner is meant to be an event where the student-athletes can interact with
our local firefighters in a causal setting. The Firefighters enjoy giving tours of their office, and
spending time with their community of student-athletes. It is also meant to thank our local fire
station for their service to Norfolk and keeping us safe as we study and compete at ODU.
This year, the dinner will take place on Monday, September 9th from 6-8pm at the Norfolk Fire
and Rescue Station 7 (1211 43rd Street Norfolk, VA 23508), located on the corner of 43rd Street and
Hampton Blvd. We are asking each athlete to donate and attend the event, which is also now being promoted
through SAAC. All we ask is a minimum $20 donation per person which will guarantee dinner for
you and a firefighter. If you cannot make the event due to a conflict, any donation is appreciated. This GoFundMe will be utilized to raise additional proceeds for the Norfolk Burn Center.
