WHO AM I?

I am William T. (Bill) Glover. I am an 88-year-old Army veteran and American “expat” living in Ecuador because my only income for 23 years has been Social Security, and I can’t afford to live in my own country. I am in a “reversal-of-fortunes” situation… admittedly a victim of my own life-long total commitment to keeping “all my eggs in one basket, both businesswise and in personal relationships.

WHAT DO I NEED?

I have somehow survived with only Social Security as income, but only because nine years ago I moved to Ecuador where my meager SS income does barely covers my basic living costs but not the surprises or the ability to build up any reserve.

Among other things, that means NO dental care for those 23 years. Problem with a tooth? Pull it! My emergency need is that I am now in the process of replacing all my teeth with the least-expensive dentures available. But I simply have no way of paying for these services. That is the critical issue here.

A second issue is that I am 88, and sooner or later another insurmountable problem will arise at my death. I expect to be cremated in Ecuador and need to enter into a pre-need contract for those services. Money allowing, I would like to send my cremains back to the US to be buried beside my wife and son.

In summary, I seek help with the following insurmountable (for me) expenses. Any funds received will be applied in this order.

I hope that I am remembered as an exceptional soldier, a loving friend, an unusual employer, a generous person, and a credit to my family, my profession and my country.

In 1958, at age 21, I was already an Army First Sergeant. At 24 I graduated from college and joined IBM (1960) in its early days of computers. I left IBM to found my own business. Eventually I was internationally known for innovation in technology, finance and human resources, and worked in that field and industry for over 40 years.

On 9/11/2001 (the day after my 65th birthday) the Twin Towers event occurred and killed my job and my business. As I began to rebuild my career, my wife of 45 years, Joan, developed terminal brain cancer, and I chose to be her 24/7 caregiver for the remaining five years of her life (2002-2007). With no income for that period. that took our remaining savings and resulted in personal bankruptcy.

At 70+ after Joan died, I was unable to find even a minimum wage job, even though I had personally created more than 500 new high-tech jobs directly and more than 1,000 indirect during my career.

Up to this point in my long life. I have been self-reliant and not a burden to anyone. Please accept my apology for presenting this request for help, but I have no choice, and it requires me to eat my embarrassment in doing so. Your donation will be appreciated and used well. In any case, Thanks!
