NOKXL NODPL Camp - Oklahoma

Halito, chim achukma! Sa hohchifo ut Amber Onnahinli Fichik Byars, a sia Chahta.

Greetings relatives, my name is Amber Morningstar Byars and I am a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. I am launching this fundraiser with the hopes and prayers that you will assist me and my classmates at the Institute of American Indian Arts help contrubute to the water protection movement. Together, in November of 2016, we raised $8000 to bring wood, food, water, and medical supplies to Standing Rock, North Dakota. We peacefully protested the Dakota Access Pipeline and contributed to the Oceti Sakowin camp community. Now, we have been called to do the same in my own community.

Why Oklahoma? If you watch the video included in this proposal, you will see that the Diamond and KXL pipelines are set to be built in an area of the country already riddled by fracking and oil drilling. The land is angry and the land remembers. With Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal Act of 1830, my ancestors were forced to walk hundreds of miles in the dead of winter from Mississippi to Oklahoma. These pipelines are set to cross the Trail of Tears, unearthing and disrupting the graves and remains of those who perished along this journey. This is unacceptable and now, its personal.

Over the past few months, I have heard many people express their desires to help. They wish they were able to do something or go to the front lines themselves. This is an opportunity. Alongside members of the American Indian Movement and many united nations from around Oklahoma, we will build a camp similar to those established in North Dakota. We will peacefully resist these pipelines and we will send the oil companies home empty handed. We will give those in the Southern region of the country an opportunity to protect their lands from further and future destruction.

The camp will be built in the Southeastern region of Oklahoma and will require supplies similar to those needed in Standing Rock. Below is a list of my supplies and their approximate costs. If you live in the Santa Fe area and are able to donate any of these items, please contact me. Any funds left over will be used to create a continuious support fund for the Oklahoma water protectors and their future needs.

10' Uhaul - $600
Wood - $600
Food for Donation - $400
Water - $200
Medical Supplies - $300
Gas - $400

Our caravan of water protectors will leave for Oklahoma on Saturday, March 11th.

I humbly ask for your support and prayers on this journey. If you cant donate, please share. If you cant share, please pray. Our legacy made during this time of tyranny will not be one of complacency, but one of resistance. Together, we will protect our lands and our children's future from ignorance, greed, corruption. Together, we will restore balance and reciprocality to our Mother Earth.

From the bottom of my heart, yakoke (thank you).
