We are Oklahoma teachers taking a stand. We seek funding for better schools and wages that will recruit, retain, and inspire the best teachers. Since our legislators have been ignoring the state's teachers for a decade, we're bringing the fight to them.
Use of funds can only be done with the approval of three different members of the organization. The fund is monitored idependently by a parent oversight committee to ensure the integrity and transparency in donations and distributions.
This gofundme will help on two primary levels.
1. Resource Support for Students at Risk: During a walkout there will be students at risk of suffering from hunger because they are dependent on breakfast and lunch normally served from their school. Oklahoma Teachers United (OTU) has been contacted by many local and national organizations looking to assist in this moment of crisis. These expenses could be spent on food items and shipping costs.
2. Marketing: We will be our Facebook group, Oklahoma Teachers United, to direct target the Facebook pages of legislators. This will require the contracting with social media specialists as well as paying boosting fees for use of uniqe Facebook networking services. In addition, OTU will be purchasing yard signs and posters that will be sent to teachers in districts that have legislators who do not support this protest movement.
Fund Management Auditors: There is a four person committee that is overseeing these funds: Two of them are teachers (Larry Cagle Tulsa, Heather Reed, Oklahoma City), two of them are parents (Chris Moore and Shawna Gehres). The auditors will review donations and expenses and publish a statement of approval on the Oklahoma Teachers United page. At the end of this fund campaign, the auditors will disperse remaining funds to a charity related to education.
