“My name is Okechi Okeke, and I was born and raised in Nigeria—a country rich in culture and resilience, but where opportunities can often feel just out of reach. Growing up, I found solace and strength in storytelling. Words became my escape, my passion, and ultimately, my purpose.
This year, something incredible happened: I was accepted into the prestigious writing program at Rutgers University in the United States. For me, this isn't just an acceptance—it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to turn a lifelong dream into reality. Rutgers is a place where I can grow as a writer, share my voice with the world, and use my education to give back to my community.
But I need your help to get there.
As proud as I am of where I come from, the reality is that Nigeria isn’t a place where higher education abroad is easily accessible, especially without financial support. My family has done everything they can, but the costs of travel, housing, the visa, and certain other expenses are far beyond what we can manage on our own.
This is why I’m reaching out to you.
Your support—no matter how small—will help me cover the costs of traveling from Nigeria to America, settling into life at Rutgers, and making the most of this life-changing opportunity. Your generosity would not just be helping one student—you’d be investing in a future storyteller, a voice from Nigeria ready to speak to the world.
I believe that stories have the power to change lives. You can be a part of mine.
Thank you for believing in me.” - Okechi
