Kathryn's Pilgrimage Fundraiser

Dear Friends and Family,
I have been presented with an opportunity to go on a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land that will benefit me in many ways. We will visit key sites in and around Jerusalem (including Bethlehem and Nazareth), build relationships with local Palestinians and Israelis, including those who are active members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL), and young adults engaged in the pursuit of peace. I will be partnering with other young adults from across the country to learn from an organization called Peace Not Walls. Being a religious studies student, it will allow me to further my education with hands on experience and allow me to see first hand biblical and historical sites that I have been studying. This is an opportunity that will help with the ministry I am currently doing in my church as well as the ministry I plan to do after graduation by starting my own nonprofit for underprivileged children. It has always been a dream of mine to travel to the Holy Land. Just this semester, my professor presented us with the question: If you could travel anywhere, with no stipulations to worry about, where would you go? I didn’t even have to think about the answer. My hand shot up and I shouted the Holy Land. Well, this opportunity is sitting right in front of me and there are very few stipulations.
One stipulation that will be the biggest bridge for me to cross is financial affordability. As I am pursuing another dream of working an unpaid internship in a nonprofit kids club this summer in California, money is tight. I have decided that the only way that I will be able to go on this pilgrimage is to fundraise for it. The trip will cost $2,600. The pilgrimage is May 20-31 of 2015. This seems to be a large amount to fundraise in a short period of time, but I am fully confident that it is possible.
I am excited about the opportunity and the experience that lies ahead. I hope that you see value in the dream that I am trying to pursue. As you can imagine, a trip like this requires many different forms of support. What I am asking of you is to please, first and foremost, keep me in your thoughts and prayers through this process and the pilgrimage. A trip like this also requires financial support from a number of people. If you can support me in a financial way, it would be greatly appreciated. Your financial support will allow me to grow in ways that I never imagined possible.
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.
Peace,
Kathryn Kester
