OGUZHAN ALAY WILL BEAT CANCER - KANSERI YENECEK!

My name is Asena Alay and I am so, so proud to call myself Oguzhan Alay's daughter.

My father has been one of the most colorful Turkish residents America has ever seen. A generous man with high spirits and a big heart, he has spent 27 years in America helping anyone and everyone he meets, and proudly representing Turkish culture through events across the country. A severe and entirely unexpected medical diagnosis has now led us here, where I'm hoping to gather support for the long and difficult days of treatment that lie ahead of us.

It breaks my heart to share that my father was diagnosed with a rapidly metastasizing form of squamous cell carcinoma. He was directed to one of the world's best cancer care centers, MD Anderson, to undergo an emergency surgery (tracheostomy) to help air reach his lungs. A large tumor in his throat has made it increasingly challenging for him to breathe and swallow, with the risk of losing his ability to breathe any moment. For 5 days, he has been slowly recovering at the hospital.

He can hardly speak. He has a pain like no other in his throat.

He was referred by the ENT doctor to MD Anderson, where he has the opportunity to receive the most advanced care for his condition. Unfortunately, the American healthcare system has had other plans for us.

His insurance plan did not cover MD Anderson and instead gave him the most limited of in-network providers, none of which could offer the right care to treat his cancer. Recognizing this, he has had to resort to paying out of pocket for his care. During his first visit, his doctor proved her expertise by scheduling him for his surgery the very next day. Before we could wrap our heads around the situation, we were billed for a $145,000 procedure and hospital stay.

My dad is self-employed (and loves his job, ask anyone!) but due to his weakness and worsening condition, he has had to stop working and will not have income for the indefinite future. Despite rallying together as a family to dedicate our resources to his treatment, we know this is only the beginning. And that raises all sorts of doubts, fears, and uncertainties for my father.

The most important ingredient to his recovery is for him to keep his spirits up and his stressors low. While this is easier said than done, my dad has been able to share a smile every day upon reading hundreds of supportive messages from a wide network of people he cares about deeply.

My dad is a man whose help, loyalty, and love has touched more lives than I can count. As his daughter, I have only wanted to be as positive and radiant as him, to spark even the smallest bit of joy that he lights up in every room he walks into. This is why I've set up this GoFundMe - to allow others the opportunity to support him. And I'm confident that any and all contributions will help him towards getting the care he needs and deserves.

27 yıldır Amerika'da yaşayan, herkese iyilikleri, yardımları dokunan, organizelerde, festivallerde Türkiye tanıtımı için yıllarca koşturan, renkli kişiliği ile kızı olmakla da çok gurur duyduğum biricik babam Oguzhan Alay'ın kızı Asena Alay olarak, babamın sağlığı açısından çok zor günlere başladığımız bugünlerde bu organizasyonu düzenlemek zorunda kaldım.

Ne yazık ki babama çok çabuk büyüyen bir kanserin (squamous cell carcinoma) teşhisi kondu ve çok acil olarak kanser alanında dünyanın en iyi merkezlerinden biri olan MD Anderson Kanser Araştırma ve Uygulama Hastanesi'ne yatırdık.

Çok iyi bir doktor ve ekibi ile tedavinin ilk etabında yakında nefes alamama riskine karşı boğazına tüpün takıldığı bir ameliyat geçirdi. 5 gün boyunca hastahanede, çok hassas bakım gerektiren bir ameliyat sonrası geçiriyoruz.

Şu anda zor konuşuyor. Acıları boğazında oldukça fazla.

MD Anderson'da tedavi organizasyonu son derece iyi olsa da, bu sırada ne yazık ki Amerika'daki sağlık sisteminin karşımıza çıkarttığı zorluklarla karşı karşıyayız.

MD Anderson tedavi masraflarını karşılamıyor. Kendi sağlık sigortası altındaki hastahane ve doktorlar babamın hastalığı için ne yazık ki iyi değil. ENT doktoru o yüzden acil olarak MD Anderson'a ve bu alanda çok iyi bir doktora yönlendirdi. Ve daha tedavi başlamadan, önümüze oldukça yüksek bir miktarda $145,000 fatura koydu. Doktorumuzun acil ameliyat yazısı ile ameliyat ayarlandı.

Babam kendi işinde çalıştıkça para kazandığı için aylarca çalışamayacak uzun bir süre. Şu anda ailecek bütün varımızı, yogumuzu ortaya koysak da tedavi sürecinde çıkacak olan faturalar en başta babamın moralini bozuyor. Ve bu iyileşme sürecinde en önemli ilaç moral.
