OG Baba Shaka At-Thinnin Memorial Fund

Donation protected
Greetings Beloved Community. With heavy hearts, we reach out to our community to request support for a memorial fund for Baba Shaka, who became an Ancestor on April 23, 2022 from cancer. Baba Shaka was a movement elder, former political prisoner, and co-founder of the Black August Organizing Committee and the Black August movement, who came up in the ranks under prison movement, leader, activist, writer, and Black Panther Field Marshall George Jackson. After being released from prison Baba Shaka dedicated his life to community through his work as an educator, organizer, mentor, and activist for the freedom for those unjustly imprisoned and those held in solitary confinement for long periods, and for liberation of all.  We are asking for support to take care of expenses that the family may incur related to his care, the memorial, maintaining his home while we deal with his extensive archives and belongings, and to ensure that the papers and artifacts that he collected have a new home (or homes) that will give honor to the work that he did over the many decades that he dedicated his life to the people.

We must continue to show our support of Baba Shaka and the family so that they don't have any more hardships moving forward and that legacy of his work can be preserved and carried forward.

Your contribution will cover any extra costs that may occur for the family for the memorial service and any costs of rent for his current home, and costs of moving, caring for, and maintaining his Black August and revolutionary archives.

The family thanks you for all of your love and support during this challenging time.

To assure accountability GoFundMe has requested that the family supply you with the following information:

Pamela DavisGant, will currently be the legal recipient of the fundraiser's donations, these donations will be deposited to a secure account and she will ensure that all funds go to the memorial expenses, and to create and maintain the archives.  The At-Thinnin-Gant family, specifically to Shaka's children,  Tye, Ngozi, Dezz, and daughter, Malika, will participate together, along with Mama Ayanna, to make the decisions on how to use the funds to have the memorial and maintain the archives. The funds  will be accounted for to the family monthly or upon their request.

We appreciate your generosity and support of our family during this difficult and challenging time as we navigate what it looks like when a movement elder who has been living at a poverty level income dies with no assets except their research, archives, historical data, writings, books, music, art, and photos. We value these items and we value Baba Shaka's contributions to our community and his memories. He will be missed but not forgotten.

With Love,
The At-Thinnin-Gant Family
