Friends, Family and those I haven't had the pleasure of meeting,
My name is Michael Clyburn. On June 18th at approximately 9:30PM, Kyle Plummer was hit by a train and dragged over 100 + ft. He was Air-Cared by helicopter from Augusta, KY to UC Hospital Trauma and Critical Care Unit. His injuries were so severe, extreme measures to save his life were taken. His left leg was amputated at the hip (hip included), and the left side of his pelvis was crushed, in addition to massive intestinal injuries. Kyle received about 70 units of blood in the first 72 hours that he was in the ICU. He's had about 17 surgeries in total so far, with the most recent being the complete removal of the left pelvis. He's facing approximately 30-40 more surgeries over the next several months. Rebuilding, skin grafting, fighting infection, maintaining vitals etc. are all daily procedures and risks.
The medical expenses alone are too high to even fathom, but we're working on some medical financial aid opportunities currently. HOWEVER, outside of medical expenses Kyle is going to need a state-of-the-art wheel chair and a special bed for once he's out of the hospital. He's going to have to have all of his clothes altered and make special arrangements daily for comfortable living conditions once he's out of the hospitals' and rehab facilities. His mother, my aunt, has not left his side since he arrived at the ICU. The cost of being there daily is definitely starting to take a toll on her as well.
There are still very scary days ahead. But Kyle is a fighter. He's a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, an uncle and my cousin. Above all Kyle is a miracle and he needs help.
