OFFICIAL JACK HIBBERT FUNDRAISER-Young Police shot at Bondi

Donation protected
On 14th December, Probationary Constable Jack Hibbert, was shot in the head and shoulder while doing the job he loves as a NSW Police Officer at Bondi Beach. Although Jack miraculously survived, he sustained severe injuries to his left eye. More than 200 pieces of shrapnel were removed, resulting in permanent vision loss and ultimately the pending removal of his eye.

As family friends for over 19 years, we know it is not in the nature of the Hibbert family to ever ask for help at someone else’s expense. In fact, they've always gone above and beyond to help others. They have agreed to this page being set up on their behalf, as they recognise the financial pressure and uncertainty of Jack's recovery ahead.

Jack has dedicated his life to helping others in their time of need, and now we ask our community to be generous in taking care of him - showing our gratitude for his courage and selflessness.

Please read a message from the Hibbert family below to learn more about the hero that Jack is, and what he’s endured since the Bondi Shooting:

"Before the tragic shooting event unfolded, Jack was on duty within the crowd, circulating and interacting with members of the Jewish community and doing his job to help maintain safety.

Whilst serving and protecting the community, Jack sustained two bullet wounds - one to his head and another to his shoulder. Jack was taken to ICU where he was intubated and placed in a coma. He has already had 3 surgeries, with more ahead, and has only just been woken from his coma.

Today (three days after the shooting) has been particularly devastating for our family, as Jack has woken up, and had to be told of his life-changing injuries. He now faces a long and challenging recovery, and the unknown ramifications of the loss of vision on his career.

So far, we have released very little information about Jack because we wanted him to have a say in which part of his story is shared, knowing that he is a very private and humble young man, and not wanting to circulate details that he would not want released.

Wider family and friends have been keen to commence a gofundme to reduce financial pressure on our family as we drop everything to be with Jack in hospital. But also importantly, to try and remove some financial stress for the months and years of uncertainty ahead.

Jack’s colleagues reported that even after he was shot, he was still doing whatever he could to try and shield and protect people around him for as long as he was able.

You could hear the pride and respect in their voices as they gently shared these horrific memories with our family.
Listening to their words, it is clear that Jack conducted himself as a hero with courage and service to others.

Jack will say he was 'just doing his job’, but we know that facing that kind of fear and possible loss of life, and facing it with courage and determination, deserves to be remembered and cared for long after the headlines fade and the media moves on.

We are so thankful for any support you can share and are so incredibly grateful that Jack is alive.

Thank you,

The Hibbert Family”
