Police Officer Paramhans Desai...My brother in Blue

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would one day start a Go-Fund-Me page for my brother, slain police officer Paramhans Desai. As shattered as I am, as his wife and two boys are, we are in the process of picking up the pieces and the only thing that keeps us going as a family is the spirit with which my brother lived his life. His death is devastating, but let me tell you about the grit and the determination with which he lived.

Param’s only dream was to become a police officer. As an eight-year-old boy in Ohio he hoped to one day be attired in Blue and protect and serve his community. Our parents hoped that this was a passing phase, one of those dreams that tend to change with age and time. But that was not the case. Param dug deep, worked hard, struggled and became exactly what he intended to be. He worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections and Dekalb County Police. And then was a police officer for the Henry County police department for the last year of his life. A dream that turned him into a 17 year law enforcement veteran.

There is always a cost to pay when you pursue a dream, a passion. And my brother was willing to pay that price to become a police officer. He often said he wanted to die as a cop and that’s how his journey ended. On November 4, 2021 Param was responding to a domestic disturbance and was shot while attempting to make an arrest. He was transported to the Grady Memorial Hospital and passed away a few days later. As gracious as he was in life, so was he in death; all his organs were donated and it’s bittersweet to know that my brother’s heart is beating in someone else’s chest.

My brother was all heart. He loved his wife Ankita and adored his two boys, 11 year old Om and 8 year old Namah. Having seen so much crime, he aggressively protected his family and created a safe space as he watched over them.

Param loved his family, his friends, his people, his community and he served with every fiber of his being. These words fall short to capture the essence of the man that gave so much to so many. And now it is my turn, your turn, our turn to give back to this police officer. Funds raised will go toward his family’s daily needs and towards the boys education.

I thank you for the continued outpouring of support, for all the prayers and the love.
