On 11/30/2022, the New Athens Illinois Police Department suffered a tragic loss with the unexpected passing of Officer Lydia Simburger while she was off duty. Lydia became a New Athens Police Officer in May of 2022. She was excited to have a career where she could continue to serve people in addition to serving her country already as a member of the US Army National Guard.
I am creating this go fund me account with the permission of the Simburger family. All donations will go directly to the Simburger family to help with funeral and memorial expenses.
Officer Simburger was dedicated to serving her country and the Village of New Athens. This is our opportunity to give back to her family in her honor.
