The Inspiration

Featuring an entire cast trained at the prestigious Howard Fine Acting Studio  - which helped launch the careers of Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, Chris Pine, Will Smith, and many other award-winning actors - OFFICE PARTY is deeply grounded in the real stories of our world and the daily realities that we all face. By focusing on two seemingly ordinary lives and a routine workplace, the film is both instantly relatable and surprisingly provocative.

We're looking forward to making a film that surprises, provokes, engages, and ultimately inspires our audience to proactively confront the issues of our time.

The Story

OFFICE PARTY tells the story of Tom (Josh Trant ) and Jack (Jared Milrad ), two co-workers tired of the same old corporate routine.

Today is the day when they shake things up.

Tom and Jack started working together at a startup sales company around the same time, and they became fast friends when they coincidently shared nearby offices. Realizing they have many interests in common, Tom and Jack started spending a lot of time together, both during and after work.

Soon enough, they decided to create a joint venture together – a truly important project that they’re confident will change the world. Months in the making, today is the day of the annual office party, a perfect time for Tom and Jack to debut the fruit of their labor.

On this important day, we join Tom and Jack on their daily routine – getting ready for work, driving to work, and working through the day. They even chat about their excitement for the annual party with their co-workers: Claire (Christina Cannarella) and Wade (Brian Parker). It’s then that their plans get a bit more complicated.

With patience and purpose, Tom and Jack are really looking forward to surprising their coworkers at the annual office party.

The Characters

TOM (Josh Trant) is a junior sales representative for a startup company in Los Angeles. Born and raised in a working class Texas family, Tom moved to the Los Angeles area for a change of pace three years ago. He was an only child and has no family in the LA area, so the boredom has been getting to him lately. A creative introvert by nature, Tom tends to keep to himself, but he’s made a few friends over years – particularly his coworker, Jack. Tom is an avid online gamer and enjoys chatting with like-minded people on the Internet.

JACK (Jared Milrad) is a mid-level sales representative for a startup company in Los Angeles. Born and raised in New York City, Jack moved to the Los Angeles area four years ago after working a variety of sales jobs in the Northeast. At his parents’ urging, Jack earned a masters degree in sales, but now feels overeducated and underemployed.  He pursued stable, 9-5 workplaces, but he’s looking for something different. He likes to travel, watch NBA games, and hike on his own to escape people and the city. Jack’s parents both passed away recently, and he’s not close with many people – except for his coworker, Tom, with whom he has a lot in common.

CLAIRE (Christina Cannarella) is a senior sales representative for a startup company in Los Angeles. Originally from Wisconsin, Claire moved to the area a decade ago for her husband’s job as a biomedical researcher. Claire enjoys working in sales. Having been with the company for nearly a decade, she is looking forward to being promoted to Sales Director. Claire and her husband, Jim, have one son, Jake, who’s now 11 years old. Jake loves summer camp and Claire is really proud of him. In her free time, Claire enjoys cooking and hanging out with her family.

WADE (Brian Parker) is a senior sales representative for a startup company in Los Angeles. A native Angeleno, Wade is an avid sports fan. He played football in college and grew up around sports – in fact, his dad coached his high school football team. Wade’s favorite sports to watch are college football and NBA games. You can find Wade at Lakers’ games whenever possible. A natural people person, Wade doesn’t mind working in sales, but he’s all about athletics and working out. He has a new girlfriend, Tiffany (a CrossFit instructor). Things are going really well and Wade couldn’t be happier.

The Filmmaker

Lisa Nicole Lennox, Director

As a storyteller, I’m fascinated by the exploration of the human condition and the mysterious and illusive bits left behind in the corners of the mind and spirit, and as it’s said about no two snowflakes being alike, neither are the psyches and life experiences of any two people. When I first read OFFICE PARTY, I knew immediately I wanted to direct this film. With limited dialogue, OFFICE PARTY allows us the creative opportunity to rely heavily on the visuals as we tell the story of two seemingly normal people who head out to work one day.

My cinematic vision is to incorporate moments of hyper focus on the micro details in which we invade the character’s personal space while making the audience feel a sense of connectivity and kinship with Tom and Jack. We’ll use symmetry in our compositions creating a sense of balance, uniformity and beauty juxtaposed with their quiet, isolateand secluded lives. I want the audience to relate to these men, possibly seeing a reflection of one self.

When the film ends, my goal is for the audience to be stunned; to feel blindsided by the events and to begin questioning everything they thought they knew about who Tom and Jack are.  I want them to go back to the micro details of the film looking for clues and wonder if there were any in the first place; I want them to be confused and feel misguided by the symmetry, only to wonder if things are not always as they appear on the outside.

OFFICE PARTY offers audiences an opportunity to see someone relatable make a bold and shocking move that has a widening ripple effect in our world and hopefully be inspired to create change.

The Writer

Jared Milrad, J.D., M.S.

As a writer, the style of storytelling that moves and inspires me most balances authenticity with a creative vision that provokes, challenges, and engages a diverse audience. OFFICE PARTY combines each of those elements, grounding us in the lives of two coworkers who are yearning for something more beyond their daily, corporatized routine. Our main characters are instantly relatable, bringing to the screen a sense of isolation and internal despair that lead them to make big plans for the future.

I know that viewers will be greatly affected by both the content of this piece and how we share it with the world. It is rare that one has the opportunity not only to tell compelling and urgent stories, but to share it in partnership with an incredibly talented and dedicated creative team. We look forward to earning your support and making a transformational film.

The Shoot
Principal photography for OFFICE PARTY will take place between September 30 - October 2, 2016 in the Greater Los Angeles area.

The film will be shot in both interior and exterior locations, each specifically chosen to fit the theme, tone, and vision of the project.

The Funds

Every dollar raised will directly fund the production and post-production costs of OFFICE PARTY.

Costs include paying for production costs such as our crew, equipment, locations, meals and post-production services such as editing, color correction, sound mixing, and festival submission fees.
