hello community,
i am abdu ali, i am an artist, writer, cultural worker and the founder of as they lay. this go fund me was made to raise funds for equipment we need for as they lay's office 89, a collaborative studio and workspace, based in the greenmount west community.
shared between me, karryl eugene (organizer of as they lay) and baatchoy (office 89 studio manager) we imagine office 89 to be a space for us to not only to create our work but also as a communal art making space where local artists can rely on as a resource as well. operating under a sliding scale donation model office 89 will be offering music, photography, and video production services. we also want to offer space to artists if they need a location to host meetings, studio visits, and workshops. due to the pandemic there will be a limit to public access.
but before we can start art making and offering space to local artists we need a few more things for music production. we are raising funds to buy music recording and mixing equipment. we've put a lot of love into the space from cleaning, repainting the gallery nook, buying office supplies, sound proofing, and furniture. we just need a little bit more help from you to complete the space and be able to offer much needed services to the community.
we would love to have the space completely equipped by Thanksgiving.
