Getting Off the Grid @ Poggio Etrusco in Tuscany
Donation protected
Pamela and Johnny are celebrating 20 years at Poggio Etrusco, our organic farm in southern Tuscany. We have done a lot... certified organic, put in a vineyard, cultivated our olive grove of 800 trees to make an excellent extra-virgin olive oil. We have taught thousands of visitors about the traditional and regional cuisine of Italy, about living from and on the land.
Some know us as innkeepers, some know us as food and wine expert, artist, barrista, cookbook author...but under it all is our agriculture that strives to be self-sustaining.
2020 has been a test of that.
With time and the tools to evaluate where we stand on that dream, the vision of what we need to do next is glowing brightly. The two areas that are not sustainable are electricity and gas for heating. We have embraced the woodstove and the pleasure of a candlelit dinner, but this 400-year-old farmhouse wants more.
With the help of current government subsidies, we can install a solar system to reduce our footprint on the grid. We just need the starter money to do that.
As for many, this year has been challenging with relatively no income. Hoping that you can help us with the intial funds to make this transition.
